The TLCAD Team Approach:

One Trainer, One Dog, One Handler

TLCAD Teams

This program is for those who are interested in applying for an Assistance Dog. A TLCAD Trainer and a TLCAD dog, having completed approximately 18 months of Assistance Dog training are matched with a disabled person (see how to apply below). This creates a team dedicated to meeting the disabled person’s specific needs. It requires approximately six months of advanced customized training before the dog is placed.

Tune-ups

Tune-up is provided for Certified Assistance Dogs and their Handlers. This program includes classes and private instruction with TLCAD Trainers to assist the Handler in strengthening their dog’s skills, improving their working relationship, and learning new behaviors.

Facility Teams

A Facility Team works in specific facilities such as medical institutions or schools and function as a third party. The team consists of a TLCAD Facilitator, the Facilitator’s certified dog, and a disabled person who requires the use of an Assistance Dog on a temporary, periodic basis.  The dogs are owned by the Facilitator, maintain residence with them and together they provide this service on a regular basis.

We place dogs only in San Diego County.

Currently we are not accepting applications. The young dogs won't be ready for new handlers until the summer of 2008. We will post on this website when applications can be submitted. Please call 760 736-4852 for more details.
