TLCAD conducts Facility Dog Team Trainings twice a year in the Spring and Fall. When groups of service and facility dogs become available for placement in the Spring and Fall, all eligible applicants will be notified. At that point, you will have the option to formally interview for a facility dog.

We screen and interview applicants whose facility and animal assisted therapy needs match the strengths and skills of the dog. We do not have a waiting list (rather, an applicant pool) since the matching of the dog’s skills to the needs of the facility population is very important for the long-term success of the placement.

The demand for service and facility dogs far outweighs our supply, so we cannot guarantee joining our applicant pool will result in obtaining a facility dog. In 2018, it is estimated that TLCAD will place up to 15 service and facility dogs.  Your application will remain in our applicant pool until the end of this year, at which time you can re-apply if needed for the following year.

All applications expire at the end of each year and a new application will need to be completed.
