We fondly dedicate this issue of our e-Newsletter in honor of
Denny Russell (September 14, 1960 – August 25, 2008).
Greetings from the TLCAD family,
The year 2008 has been joyous and gratifying for many of us. Our first autism dog was placed, new dogs were folded into training, and a possible TLCAD training site is being investigated with TERI, Inc. (see Spotlight below). Yet, sadness did overwhelm us in August with the passing of Denny Russell, teamed with Sage, a magnificent yellow Labrador. Denny passed away after an unexpected illness in August. He was a gentle man, full of life, with a beautiful smile. Denny was a much loved employee of the San Diego Padres and his goal both in his daily life and at his job (as Disabled Services Coordinator at Petco Park), was to be very giving to others. He wanted to make people’s lives better, and give them a positive experience in any way he could at Petco Park. Helping others brought him happiness. This was the Denny Russell Way.
Denny was also a true friend of TLCAD. When teamed with Denny, Sage made his mark with the Padres. The joy Denny brought to his work place with Sage was a lasting gift that continues with Sage’s ownership transferred to a Padre employee. Sage brings a piece of Denny to the office every day and elicits many smiles and fond memories. Please watch our featured video honoring Denny Russell.

To Be or Not To Be an Assistance Dog?
There are many studies on how dogs help people mentally and physically as though it is a one-way street – that only people benefit. Both benefit if certain ingredients are in the relationship - respect of the dogs needs which includes understanding of dog behavior, health, play and good leadership.

Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs is taking the leap! The Denny Russell Way!
The slowing of the economy has energized TLCAD to launch our TLCAD Integrated Campaign for 2009. Why? Because families challenged with a disabled family member will be financially impacted more than ever. We are eager to help – “the Denny Russell Way” – striving to make a difference by helping others – moment by moment – bit by bit.
TLCAD’s major goals for 2009:
- Create a training facility internationally known for quality and humane training.
- Increase the number of assistance dogs in San Diego County
- Increase the number of trainers throughout the USA and the world for autism dog and service dog training.
- Establish an inclusive center on canine behavior, training and disability awareness for TLCAD and the public.
Like most charity endeavors, it takes a village of caring people to make it happen. Our goal is $5,000,000 put into a foundation over the next 5 years. Sound impossible?
What if 500,000 people donated $10 over 5 years – then not impossible at all. Help us accomplish this “the Denny Russell Way” bit by bit - and donate your $10 (or more...) today. Click here to donate or mail a check to TLCAD P.O. Box 1244 Solana Beach, Ca 92075.
